I got a Running 5 Horse Scrapyard Briggs!
A 1999 Briggs 5 horse generator motor fired right up with gas dripped into the carb. The gas tank would need to be cleaned out, as well as a carb. rebuild to get the engine running for use. But, at least I know the engine is just about ready to use.

Ellen Marie Deuel Singing cover version of "Jar of Hearts"
Переглядів 6128 днів тому
Here is Ellen doing a sing along cover of Lisa Lavie's version of the song "Jar of Hearts" When Ellen and I sang this we couldn't find any karaoke versions of this song, so we sang over top of the original singer, not ideal, but it was all we could figure out to do. The photos are just arranged in random order.

Scrapyard 1945 Briggs Model N plus 1970 2 hp

I have been out visiting the scrapyard again, and 2 horizontal shaft old briggs engines came home with me. A 1945 Briggs model N cast iron engine, and a 1970 model 6 2 horsepower engine. Neither engine is seized, or has a carburetor, so they are not complete, but both are useful for parts, so a good find.

Replacing the CAT on a 2003 Focus
Переглядів 1114 місяці тому
My Focus has been getting bad gas mileage lately, so I used a code reader. It displayed a P420 code which is a convertor problem. I have a parts car, so I took the convertor off it, and swapped them out. Hopefully this will cure the problem. I also had to do some repair welding on the CAT rear flange, as it was badly eaten away and wouldn't retain the bolts.

So Katy has been coming acrossed the street to visit for many years. I always give her a little bit of food, but she mainly likes to be petted. She really goes for the Catnip when it is growing, as we have an ample supply of it in our yard. She is a Tortoiseshell type cat, hence the camo type markings. We have 2 Tortys also, Sassy and Spot, commonly know as Sasinga and Bottomless Spotimoss :)

      I was just using a nickel based stick welding rod for cast iron. i didn't do any heat treating. These engines don't run very long, so it wasn't necessary. I guess you would have to experiment with heat treatment to do this for a cam intended for long life.

    NICE ol' maggie! You prolly know by now but these are 2 stroke. And they like 16 to 1 with ordinary s.a.e. 30 weight motor oil. Premium gas, no alcohol, with the highest octane they have at the pump. They like a lead substitute too. No one cared too much about exhaust emissions when this was made. It smoked, it stunk, but it got the chores done, and it was a marvelous home convenience in its time. The fact that these still run is why that maytag repair man is still bored to this day ha ha

      Sorry to hear about your grandfather! Yes a 68 Corvette would be a very nice car to get back on the road, even if you just went to the odd car show with it. It is always a difficult time when someone close to us passes away, the closer they are the harder it is. It has been almost 3 months since my wife passed on suddenly, and it still feels like it was just last week in some ways. I guess my best advice is to appreciate people while they are with us, and don't take people for granted. Also, do our best to heal hard feelings between us and friends or family, as we never know when our number is up so to speak. I bit my tongue a few times during my wife's last few weeks, just over little things, and I am so glad I did, because I would feel like a total arse now if I had of said something nasty to her. Sometimes is is best to listen to that little voice in our head that tells is not to do something!

      Yes, sometimes it is necessary to be able to keep driving the vehicle. It does make the CAT worthless for resale to a recycler. I had to do that to a guys car that was only 2 years old, he drove on terrible bumpy gravel roads, and it broke the internals of the Cat loose, and blocked the exhaust. Once we punched it out he could drive the car again.

      Hey, thanks so much for watching the video! My videos are far from polished gems, but I do the best I can with little resources :) You look to have a good music studio there, and your results sound Awesome! I have some funny lyrics for "Little Deuce Coupe", but haven't found any suitable karaoke versions for it. They all sound canned or tinny to me, but your music is great. Thanks again for taking the time to play the music that you do, and put it onto youtube to share it with everyone. I remember the days10 or 12 years ago when they went by view counts instead of all the ads that are there now, it seemed much better, and us little guys stood a better chance of having people watch our vids. Now it seems to have gotten too commercialized, so the little guys get lost in the shuffle. Back then one of the first people to watch my videos was William Shatner (Captain Kirk from Star Trek) it was so great to have him leave a comment on my little channel. It was almost like getting his autograph. One thing I like about youtube is that you can contact people all around the world, I have people in the UK, Australia, Europe, Canada and the USA who visit just to check in to see how we are all doing, and I have to admit that this contact has helped me through this tough time after having my wife pass away suddenly. Luckily my mother live a few blocks away, so I visit her pretty much everyday. Sorry for being so long winded, you take care for now. Miles

      Yes, she was a bit of a speed demon, but she was safe about it. She would come roaring into the driveway faster than I liked, but mentioning it never changed anything! :) I have seen some seriously unsafe driving the last few years, in fact just Friday night coming home I saw a blue car make 2 unsafe passes on a 2 lane highway, both times a car was coming the other way. I am NOT a slow driver myself, so when I say this person was driving dangerously, I mean it. It is kind of a crazy thing, but I think excessively slow drivers cause more accidents than fast drivers, because people take chances passing the Butt Draggers, then have a problem because they are ticked off at the slow poke!

      Yes, she was beautiful, but no she didn't have a Charger, I had a 72 Charger with a built up 318 which was more like a 340, and would keep up with a 5 liter Mustang. My son has it now, and has dumped in a 500 horse 440, the car is Scary! My channel logo is of the 318 engine doing a burn out, and the vid of it is one of the earliest ones on this channel. I had to stretch the facts in the song to fit somewhat with the original words, but when the 1000 horse Hellephant came out I knew I had to incorporate it into the song. I have 3 or 4 more verses that I couldn't fit in, like: "I heard last month she almost got caught, while racing Avril's Lambo for a parking spot. (Avril Lavigne is from Napanee) Also "The Hellephant comes out on sunny days, and if you hear it Trumpeting, Get out of the way!" and finally: She's gonna get her car crushed sooner or later , cause you can't out run the OPP's lasers! Yes, Ellen sure liked her flowers! They are doing well this year, I keep watering them to keep them alive in her memory. I like them also, they sure add a lot of color to the yard. Sometime soon the Hollyhocks will flower, she didn't plant them, they jumped the fence from next door, and started growing in our yard, so I water them sometimes also. If it was destined that my wife had to pass on, I am glad it was in the spring, so that I have all of these pretty reminders of her presence. If it had happened on a gray November day, it would have been so much harder to deal with! We all have our own ways of dealing with a personal tragedy like this, for some reason I find comfort in making videos and singing songs about her, and sharing them with family and friends. Even messaging with you like this helps me out, so thanks for commenting, i really appreciate it. I know we all have our own group of people we know, but is it just me, or are people dropping like flies, and I don't mean from old age. There seem to be a lot of people dying suddenly form blood clots, strokes or fast acting cancer, none of these apply to my wife, but it just seems like an increased incidence to me. Take care.

    What makes that 3.5 rare?

    • @ChargerMiles007
      @ChargerMiles007 Місяць тому

      The 3.5 horse horizontal shaft engine is very rare here where I live for some reason, not sure why. I have around 500 Briggs engines that I have collected from scrapyards here in town. Out of all of those engines I have only found 1 or 2 3.5 horse horizontal engines, and the model 110... 4 horsepower horizontal shaft is equally rare. I have lots of model 6 2 horse , model 8 3 horse, some model 10 4 horse and lots of model 13 5 horse engines. But the 3.5 seems to be scarce around here. My youtube friend "SuperKonr" mailed me up 1, and my son has since bought a couple of them online for use on mini bikes. Perhaps they are common where you are, but I just can't find them. As far as parts go, I would look on ebay. I sent my engine back to the scrapyard, as it was taking up way too much shed space. How difficult are they to put back in…the pistons, I mean? My truck’s almost 20yrs old and this is probably the 3rd, maybe even 4th, time it’s happened. • @ChargerMiles007
      @ChargerMiles007 Місяць тому

      I found the pistons to go back in fairly easily, you just have to lube the cylinder and the piston and seal with brake fluid. I sanded the cylinder with fine sandpaper to remove any rust, the same for the piston. You just have to see how well it works when you do a road test after the brake job, and keep an eye out for any leakage, and check the brake reservoir often the first few days, until you know it isn't leaking, and that you can trust it. Hope that helped.

      Sorry about the delay, I am no expert on this subject, but mine had a similar situation, and it was the speakers. I think I ordered mine from Walmart in the USA, You should have a look online at the HHR Forum, I am sure you will find info there.

    Another good idea there, something that you can use while thinking of her watching over you looking after her garden... :)

      Thanks. I haven't gotten around to working on it yet. Been too busy trying to keep my old cars running. Still part way thru a timing belt job on the Focus, lots of fun!

    I never understood what could possibly have inspired the offset front wheel thing. Seen it many a time. Never really liked how they look, or how they push. There's gotta be a reason, right?

      I wondered that also, only thing I can think of is its the most direct exit for grass clippings given the centrifugal force and velocity of the air being pushed by the blade.

    • @ChargerMiles007
      @ChargerMiles007 Місяць тому

      I think it is because that is how a centrifugal pump would be made. Later they moved the discharge between the wheels to be more uniform and stop scalping the grass.

    My grandmother had a mower like that in the early 70s, except the motor was orange and the body and handle were white. I remember it despite being little because I was scared of that thing! What stuck in my mind was when she cut her foot mowing and needed stitches.

    My grandpa had that exact mower. Not a big yard but he kept it manicured. Orange was the original color. I think Ellen would approve with whatever you decide to do. Kittys are cool. Just hang in there, Charger, I can't do much weed wacking either.

    That left rear tire is really tired, because it has no tread left.

      Thanks, I appreciate your message, due to the forward passage of time I am being forced to move on with life. However it is going to take a long time to work thru the grieving process, which they say has 5 stages to it. I am still at the start, in spite of the fact that I was there when she passed, attended the funeral etc. I still have trouble believing it has happened, and isn't just a really bad dream! It was all so sudden, you come home from work on a Friday to find an ambulance in front of your house. My wife lived another few days, but she was never conscious, and once they told us there was no hope, we had to let her go. She went very quickly, and she was in no pain, so that was a blessing. I believe in an afterlife, so I am sure I will see her again, but the separation causes a very real pain. I think of her often, and remember the good times we had together. We were only married about 13 years, which wasn't long enough, but I am so glad that we had that much time together. We met by chance at a dance, she noticed me, and asked me to dance. Our courtship lasted about a year and a half, and had a few rocky moments, but we got over those, and we were a good fit for each other. She put up with my small engine hoard, and I helped her grow her elephant collection :) I am glad I have a youtube channel, as she appears on some of the videos. Sorry for rambling. Thanks again for caring. Miles

    It could have come off a tiller, do you think? Maybe a "Merry Tiller"?

    • @ChargerMiles007
      @ChargerMiles007 2 місяці тому

      Yes, it could be off of an old tiller. I found one with an engine like this about 10 years ago, I should have just bought the whole machine, but they charged by the pound, it it was a heavy tiller! I did get the engine though, and old casty like this.

    I don't think it's a daft idea to make a memorial engine, you're doing something to remember your wife in your own way that is part of you and your personality & interests, and is something for you to look at and think of her... :)

      I have changed my mind, and will restore the 1968 lawnmower I found last week. It will take me a while to do, as it is gardening season, and I put in about 2/3 of our normal garden, so that takes time everyday to water.
